- Stuart Bowden has been involved with female hockey since the early 80's when he was dragged to the arena to watch his sister play with the London Devilettes. After a family move to Windsor, he figured if he had to be at the arena, he might as well become a coach. As an assistant with the Windsor Wings, he spent 5 years working with the defence and goalies, culminating in an Ontario Provincial championship in 1997. This success led to a position with the University of Windsor Lancers where he spent 3 years as an assistant. His big break came in the summer of 2000 when he was named the 1st head coach in program history of the girls' prep team at Gilmour Academy in Cleveland, OH. There he built the foundation of a program that regularly graduates players to the NCAA ranks. He returned to Canada in 2003-04 and worked with Shelley Coolidge and the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees, winning a QSSF championship and placing 2nd at the National Championships. He returned to the University of Windsor for one final year in 2004-05 as an associate coach with the Lancers as well as acting as the school's Sports Information Director. He continues his work behind the bench today with a Senior AA women's team, the Ottawa Roadrunners, and his son Stuart's Ottawa East team.
He joined SSN in 2006 as the lead colour commentator alongside John Bower for University of Ottawa Gee-Gees home games. In 2008, the pair also began covering the University of Carleton Ravens home match-ups. Together they have covered four CIS National Championships (Ottawa 2, St. Fx, Laurier). The duo also created the weekly video blog - CIS Hockey Weekly which looks at the past week in CIS women's hockey complete with interviews of athletes and coaches. In 2010, Stuart became the lead play by play voice for both the Gee-Gees and Ravens coverage.
