- February 05 2010

Taylor Smith (Hamilton, Ont.) broke the McMaster Marauder's all-time scoring record as they defeated the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 81-62.

With the win the Marauders move into third place in the OUA West with an 11-6 record. The Golden Hawks now drop to 7-10, but still hold the final playoff spot in the West.

Going into the game, Smith was just four points short of breaking Chiara Rocca's all-time scoring record of 1,992 points. Just 1:04 into the first quarter Smith drained a three pointer to tie the record. She would have to wait until the second quarter when she came up with another three to set a new record. Smith would finish with 19 points giving her a career total of 2,008.

The Marauders built up an early lead finishing the first quarter with a 21-11 lead. Laurier would muscle up 15 points in the second quarter, but McMaste r would not let up, going into the half with the score 42-26.

It was much of the same story in the third quarter as the Marauders kept a consistent effort posting another 20-point performance and holding Laurier to just 12. In the fourth, the Purple and Gold showed their true colours outplaying and outscoring their opponent, but it was too little too late.

Renata Adamczyk (Greensville, Ont.) finished with 19 points on the night. With those 19 points she now has 1,000 points in her career with the Golden Hawks. Anna Southall-Millward (Hamilton, Ont.) posted a career-high 11 points and six rebounds.

For the Marauders Taylor Chiarot (Hamilton, Ont.) tallied 14 points and shot 54 percent from the field.

The Golden Hawks now travel to Windsor Saturday, February 6th to take on the 16-1 Lancers.
