Capital Hoops Classic in the spotlight this week on SSN

- January 25 2010

The fourth annual Capital Hoops Classic at Scotiabank Place pitting the Ottawa Gee-Gees against the Carleton Ravens for citywide men's basketball bragging rights headlines this week's coverage of university sport match-ups on the Streaming Sports Network.

In all, 39-games will be broadcast from across Canada this week and all games can be viewed free of charge at www.SSNCanada.ca.

The Capital Hoops Classic takes centre-stage on Wednesday night at Scotiabank Place beginning at 6 pm ET when the Ravens women's hoopsters face the Gee-Gees. The Ravens are perched atop the OUA East standings, but with a win, the Gee-Gees could move to within two-points of the black birds.

On the men's side, two-points separate the second-ranked Carleton and the sixth-ranked Ottawa as they enter their first meeting of the season. The Ravens, who sport the stingiest defence in the conference, will look to tame the high-octane Ottawa offence led by the Gee-Gees all time leading scorer, Josh Gibson-Bascombe.

Hoops, pucks and balls are on tap for the rest of the week on SSN broadcast schedule that includes:

A Tuesday night volleyball special from Halifax as the Dalhousie Tigers host their cross-town rivals from Saint Mary's at 7 pm AT. The first-place Huskies look to increase their lead over the idle Acadia Axewomen.

The Toronto Varsity Blues head to the nation's capital on Friday night to face the Ravens in a basketball twin-bill that has the potential to shake up the OUA East standings, while the Lakehead Thunderwolves head to Windsor for a pair of road games that will decide top spot in the OUA West.

The week wraps up on Sunday with a critical OUA women's hockey game between the second ranked Laurier Golden Hawks and the surging Guelph Gryphons at 2 pm ET.
